I have now decided that I prefer to knit horizontal ones rather than vertical since I found them less difficult and was just as pleased with the result.<\/br><\/br>The vertical stripes were easy to design. You just pick which colors you prefer where and cast on.<br \/>\nThe cast on does seem slightly complicated, but I tried several methods and then just decided to cast-on each color at the beginning and weave in the tails upon completion.<\/br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.metzroth.com\/katie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/IMG_9821_cropped.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.metzroth.com\/katie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/IMG_9821_cropped-291x300.jpg\" alt=\"vertical stripes\" title=\"vertical stripes\" width=\"291\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-662\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.metzroth.com\/katie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/IMG_9821_cropped-291x300.jpg 291w, https:\/\/www.metzroth.com\/katie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/IMG_9821_cropped-996x1024.jpg 996w, https:\/\/www.metzroth.com\/katie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/IMG_9821_cropped.jpg 1743w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 291px) 100vw, 291px\" \/><\/a><\/br>In an effort not to get everything too tangled, I did not use entire skeins, but had long strands for each stripe. If you would like to learn from my mistakes, you&#8217;ll want to make sure your long strands are actually long enough to complete your square. I had more than a few ends to weave in before the square was finished.<\/br><\/br>The horizontal stripes are just a color modification of a pattern in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/100-More-Afghan-Squares-Knit\/dp\/1570763224\">100 more afghan squares to knit<\/a> by Debbi Abrahams&#8230;. square 76 on page 93.
