I like to think of myself as a storyteller. Mostly I tell stories about knitting.

A local yarn shop review.

I was asked if I needed help when I entered the shop, but felt like I was interrupting the knitting group that was going on. Honestly, the whole group was giving off a pretty unhappy vibe for ladies knitting in a yarn shop in the middle of the day on a Thursday. Or maybe I looked a bit too Austin hippy for their taste in my flip flops, frayed jeans and T-shirt (Texas “winters” rock). Either way, I was able to get the help I needed finding a few things I’ve not seen previously. I bought:
Fiesta Baby Boom – Sun Face (first orange I’ve purchased with the intention to knit socks for myself)
Viking of Norway Nordlys superwash – 957 aka purple/pink. (I would have preferred the blue, but it was too smurfy).

Yarn & Stitches

sorry about the quality - I realized the glare was BAD later.

The bags and bags of yarn around the store were somewhat off-putting too, so I doubt I’ll be back just because I wasn’t a fan of the whole feel of the shop. But, in the interest of fairness, I should note that there is a 10% discount for joining the shop’s ravelry group and the shop’s prices are pretty reasonable with the discount.

I’m sorry it wasn’t a great experience. Hooray for new yarn though!

No worries. I like to try new shops. You reminded me that I wanted to post yarny pics, so those’ll be up tomorrow!

I have a yarn store not too far from me that gives off that same kind of vibe!! I love to check out new yarn stores in every town I visit. One of my all time favorites is Hill Country Weavers, right in your neck of the woods. Lucky you!

I think the biggest put off for me at a LYS was a couple of years ago I walked into one (that is no longer in business) and the owner was smoking in the shop. I never went back.
