I finished my second attempt at the Hermoine Hat! :) I’m pleased it went so fast! :)
It looks much better than the first one! Imagine all that can be accomplished when you follow a pattern. :)
I cast on before we took off for Washington last Sat. and finished this morning (since I didn’t take double pointed needles with me).
The hat was started in Texas and then traveled to Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.
TH said, “looks nice.” :)
Here are some pics:

Tuesday –
-got up and had breakfast.
-drove to Metro station #1 – there was nowhere to park (normal spots were full of snow).
-drove to Metro station #2 – there was nowhere to park
-got to Washington, BIL dropped TH and I off at WW2 Memorial and we walked to Washington Monument.
-BIL jogged from far away parking to Monument.
-I am afraid of heights and mildly claustrophobic, but it turns out that when it is really cold and windy outside, those things fade in comparison. :)
-We went up in the Monument and I really enjoyed the view – I think my issue may be related to the glass elevators.

Kt
-I even enjoyed seeing the decorative stones on the way down. :)
-went to the Reagan building to eat at the food court (had to show photo id)
-went to the National Aquarium (saw piranas feeding)
-went to the White House Visitors Center and BIL went to get the car. THANKS! :)
-got back to the casa and hung out and then went to dinner at the Outback Steakho (the sign had some letters out. :) )….they seated us with a baby at a round table right in the pathway…this was slightly ridiculous, but we were able to make it work and luckily, there were no fires. As we were leaving the parking lot, we stopped to avoid running over some kids crossing the street. The sedan driven by a fiftyish lady behind us honked….evidently, she was in a hurry to get home and wanted us to flatten the kids. hmmm.

Wednesday –
-got up and got on the road.
-had McD for breakfast on the way to Philly
-saw Independence Hall (where they made you open your coat to prove you were not packing heat)
C

PA

-saw the Liberty Bell (where they also made you open your coat)
-ate Philly Cheesesteak at Sonny’s – I was not that impressed….and SIL was also underwhelmed with Sonny’s food. Next time, we’ll try Campo’s down the block.
-SIL and I saw the Betsy Ross house (& Christ Church); no ghosts were spotted. The gift shop was cute (bought inexpensive bamboo knitting needles). It seems the people of that time were smaller but there were some pretty cool spiral staircases.
-headed back to MD – the hat is as done as it will get on this trip. I need a few double pointed needles to finish, but I’m very excited to be pretty much done! :)
-stopped at 2 McD’s (one for diaper change and one to give baby break and get ice cream and ho. cho. for adults).
-got back to casa
-packed and watched the Olympics and blogged. :)

SIL and I went to the spa while BIL & TH kept the baby. :)
We saw ten foot long icicles on the way to the spa…..true story.
On the way home, we swung by the LYS (Woolwinders) and I got some yarn dyed by a local artist. I am not counting this against my new year’s resolution of not buying yarn since I am out of state. :) It is next to the store where SIL got Syd’s food last time which amused us.
Then, we stopped by 5 Guys to try their burgers.
I managed to resist Five Guys fries (and cajun fries) – yay me!
It started snowing again. :)

I repeatedly thought while climbing over the console to avoid ice and snow today that I am not as young as I once was…..thanks, Toby! :)

Watching the bachelor with TH, BIL, and SIL while drinking Ho Cho = GOOD TIMES and lotsa laughs! :)
