Katherine the Great
I like to think of myself as a storyteller. Mostly I tell stories about knitting.

Mon. evening (3/8/2010) – I don’t feel like a rockstar, but I still feel good enough to knit on the entrelac baby hat, so, clearly, I’m not sick. :)
TH, on the other hand, has decided he is sick.

Tues. morning – hmmm. feeling even less like my awesome self, but this might be allergies and I have a LOT of very important meetings, so I’ll head off to work and think good thoughts and hope for the best.
noon – nope, I feel like a rockstar’s roadie. I’m going home.
2pm – go to bed and decide I may not really care what happens to the rest of the planet.
TH was smart and worked from home all day so as not to infect his coworkers. He’s so considerate.

Wed. – this is even bad for being sick. I’m going to call the doctor and make an appt at 8am.
I oversleep and TH calls Dr. at 8:15am. He snags the last appt. and I have an appt. for Thurs. morning.
TH drives himself to the doctor around noon. He gets a little lost on the way to the doctor and a little lost on the way to the pharmacy. He should not be operating a vehicle and that was before he added codeine to his diet.
Dr. prescribes antibiotics and codeine for the crazy bad cough.

Thurs. – I drag myself out of bed and go to the doctor.
I tell Dr. I’ve had fever for 2+ days.
Dr. does swine flu test. This is invasive. If you haven’t had one, you’re missing out. I can now check “got labotomy” off my life list.
When I get home, TH indicates that he thinks we have swine flu b/c the antibiotics are not improving things.
Dr. calls with results around 2pm. I have tested positive for Flu Strain A – “which one’s that?” I ask…to which I hear an apologetic, “swine flu.”
TH and I road trip for Canada Dry, and flu medicine.
I take the meds and get an upset stomach b/c I didn’t eat enough with it….great! the one flu symptom I hadn’t had yet….check!
Doctor has indicated that if I test positive for flu, I should lay in bed through the weekend…..no problem. I can do that.

Fri. – lay in bed
leave bed to make soup and take medicine. only bother to eat because the medicine upsets my stomach if I don’t.

Sat. – lay in bed
leave bed to make soup and take meds.
have exhausted all of the shows on tivo, maybe I feel up to knitting….nope false alarm, I still fill like the stuff one cleans out of drains.
A good friend comes to pick up our hockey tickets and brings soup rations and hydrangeas (my fav!) and a card. She’s an angel! :) Thanks, MD!!!!! You made my day!
flowers

Sun. – lay in bed.
leave bed to make soup and take meds.
people begin to call to see how we’re feeling.
I appreciate the thought, but we have the swine flu. We don’t feel good. You can assume this. and something about my phone ringing was really starting to tick me off.
If it hadn’t been the woman who gave birth to me the last time my phone rang, I’m sure the convo. would not have gone as well as it did.
by this point, Sydney is completely irritated by the lack of activity in our house and has taken to staring at the sleeping people as if she can will us to play with her or take her jogging. riiiight. This is not possible, but I’m here to tell you, if a Lab. could WILL you better, we would have been healed. :)

Mon. – dr. has approved me to go back to work because I have not had fever since Thurs. night.
and Glory be, there has been a time change, so I have to drag myself to work an hour earlier! oh joy! :)
5pm – I leave work. day 1 done! I have survived! someone should write a song about this!

Tues. – got to work a little later than normal in an effort to last the week. Thank goodness I’m leaving early for a dentist appt. I’ve NEVER been so happy for one in all my born days. Maybe I’ll live to see Wed.
I go to bed at 7pm. This might be the earliest I’ve gone to bed. ever.

Wed. – Happy St. Patrick’s Day, sweet world!
I feel human again! :) I’m back! :)
but, I may go to bed early again tonight, just to be sure. :)…….b/c after all, I’ve still got a cough that is legen….wait for it….dary! :)

Moral of the story:
come down with H1N1 at exactly the same time as TH, so neither of you can blame the other one. :)

I decided to try to knit a quick baby hat to take a break from the WoW blanket.
I was sick all last week, so I made no progress.
Over the weekend, I picked up this hat again and was hoping to get the rectangles going and maybe finish the hat.

Alas! I cannot seem to figure out what I’m supposed to be doing!
I see the directions. I’ve read them a million times. I think I might have them memorized.
Pick up 15 stitches then knit 14 and k2tog(one from picked up and one from the sts next to the ones you’re working). I totally get this in theory, but once I pick up the sts, the working yarn never seems to be in the right place!
From one end, I think I should be purling and from the other end, I’d be k2tog at the beginning….NOT the end. Now, I realize only a couple of people seem to have tried this pattern, but I just have NO IDEA what is going on? I feel VERY dense right now and since I’m just getting over being sick, my self esteem cannot handle this blow right now. I’m posting pictures and I’m going to appeal to the knitting goddesses of the Internet. If you have ANY idea what kind of crack I’m on, I’d LOVE to hear from you! :)
(my ravelry id is Kat1e).

Hockey Ramblings

Went to another hockey game Friday night. Stars won 4-3 in OT. I was THRILLED! :) I felt like the IceHogs were outskating them, but I think the Stars wanted the win more. There were several fights. The captain was on his way to a possible hat trick when one of the hogs started a fight and it looked like TC (the captain) ended up with a loose tooth! :(
After the star spangled banner was finished, I heard the little boy behind me (circa 4 years old) say, “was that the America song?” to which his father simply said, “yes” :)
Also of note, is the fact that the Ice Hogs have a player named Cullen (mark). I would think if he wasn’t on the Ice HOGS, his jersey would be popular among Twilighters.
The Ice Hogs are giving out cereal bowls at their next games. This seems like the most useful swag ever and I hope the Stars marketing folks are paying attention. :)

Babbling about Knitting

I should have worked on the WoW blanket this weekend, but distractions are so much fun!
I started a baby hat for a friend’s little girl so that I would have a portable project and have a project to use entrelac on and totally got sucked in. My goal friday was to finish the hat by tomorrow, but I have also gotten distracted from that.
The house is cleaner.
A picture has been framed.
The lint trap outside has been cleaned out (this required the use of the gorilla ladder and some creative footwork so I didn’t break the gutters off the house. At one point, when I was feeling particularly smooth, I compared myself to Katherine Z. J. in Entrapment in my head). :)
A good time was had last night that included dinner with a friend and music with two friends. :)
Syd has new food that has less grains.
TH’s birthday plans have been fleshed out.
I have blogged, so NOW, I can get back to my knitting. :)

One last thing

A friend (L) and I are racing to finish our monster projects. She is halfway through The Carp sweater and I am 46.4% through the WoW blanket! Who will win!?!?! Probably her……as you can see, I distract easily! :)

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
