Katherine the Great
I like to think of myself as a storyteller. Mostly I tell stories about knitting.

The Fancy socks for The Husband are finished! I’m much happier with the new toes (the ones where I actually followed the pattern since I had to rip back because I’d run out of yarn).
Before (on my feet) – seriously, do you see these toes?!?
Gentleman's Fancy Socks

After (on TH):
Gentleman's Fancy Socks 2

Pattern: Gentleman’s Fancy Sock
Designer: Nancy Bush
Yarn (main): Lorna’s Laces Solemate in Bigger on the Inside
(toes): Cascade Heritage Silk in 5631 (gray)
Needles: 2.25mm
Comments from The Husband: “Those turned out good. Nice job.” (This is high praise as he’s not yet a handknit sock cult member – but I’m not worried. I can see him walking towards the dark side and on his feet….are handknit socks.)

Ps. Check out what others have finished at Tami’s Amis and Wisdom begins in Wonder and Natural Suburbia

I like to think I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day. But if I’m being honest, I like holidays in general. However, I like for V.D. to be more about friends and family and also The Husband, not about him spending money on roses or chocolate or us waiting in line for food (I’m never a fan of that). So, as per my usual M.O., I let him know that he was off the hook and bought myself yarn.

Thank you, Cupid! (who shopped in January)
Then, Tuesday, I cracked a tooth….and I came home to this.
Valentine
He got the last dog with brown ears, all the rest had pink ears and he knew I wouldn’t be into a dog with pink ears. He was not wrong. I know I loved Poochie in the 80’s, but I’m over it. The Husband is one smart (and very sweet) cookie.

Ps. I hope you all know that you’re thought of fondly this Valentine’s Day and I wish you a lovely day – especially my dear rocket scientist friend who was born on this day just a few short years ago. Happy Birthday, awesome lady!

Pattern: Polypodium vulgare Socks (Polypodium vulgare is a fern)
Designer: Hunter Hammersen
Yarn: Malabrigo Sock
Colorway: Violeta Africana (which makes me think of eggplants)
Needles: 2.25mm

Knitting

Quality Knitting Time with my Stylist

Hunter sometimes does really neat patterned heels, but I was pleased when I got to the heel of this one that there was no chart. easy peasey. I really like this pattern and the resulting socks. They look complicated, but the pattern is not that hard and the sock fits well.
Purple Sock
After this photo was taken, I screwed up the pattern and had to tink back three rows. Evidently, Tierra’s drama on the Bachelor was so distracting that I just dropped a stitch.
