![Earlier this week, @marz1pan agreed to eat lunch at our local Irish pub to celebrate me finally finishing my draft of my Irish paranormal romance.
The proprietor, who sees me regularly, asked if I was knitting for a new addition. I said “No, these socks are for me!?!” and I held it up for him to see.
He smiled and walked away.
After he left, I asked Megan “Did he just ask if I was pregnant?”
She said “Yes. You didn’t misunderstand.”
And then I sat for a second. Someone asked if I was pregnant the week before Mother’s Day and I didn’t feel overrun by grief.
My gaping wound is healing and becoming a scar I can touch without it gutting me.
Two things have contributed to this:
- therapy
- doing the work of writing a heroine who finds joy after life lifes all over her.
While I hunt for and find joy on a regular basis, the act of working through this fictional plot has been healing. I’m so grateful for my writing journey.

I took The Husband’s plain black socks (and TH) to see Brave in 3D at 9:45am at the Alamo Drafthouse….TH’s idea to minimize the crowd and it was a great call.
The story is strong, the film is gorgeous and has a beautiful soundtrack. I suspect it will take its place beside Steel Magnolias as a timeless classic about the complexity that is the mother-daughter relationship. Overall, excellent!
Ps. Get there early if you go to Alamo because the Pixar shorts are icing on the cake.
I have really heard great, great things about Brave. Good to know you liked it. I’ll have to carve out some time and make myself see it.

well, I always hate for people to get their expectations up too high, but I really enjoyed this one! :)
I suspect that not a lot of sock progress was made on this trip : )
I usually end up just knitting during the pre-previews and previews so I can totally concentrate 100% on the movie, but in this case, the pre-previews were the digital shorts, so yea, not a lot of progress made (unless you count just holding knitting :))….but there’s not a huge hurry to finish wool socks when it is 100 outside! :)
